Malaysia Week London
Malaysia Week London events bring Malaysian culture to Potters Fields with music, fashion, dance, arts and crafts, food and more. Potters Fields Park will be transformed with the sights, sounds and flavours of Malaysia in a unique festival event.
Take something home from Malaysia Week
Traditional Malaysian art and craft pieces will be available throughout Malaysia week, giving visitors the chance to take home a slice of Malaysian culture. Goods on offer include batiks, silver, pewter, ceramics, crystals, woodcrafts and pearls, presented by authentic Malaysian artisans. An art exhibition will also be taking place where a selection of original works will be available for sale.
Live performances in Potters Fields
Music and dance will be a key part of Malaysia Week London events, with live performances from the three main ethnic groups in Malaysia; Indian, Chinese and Malay. A line up of performers have been selected by The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture and The Arts and Heritage of Malaysia. Last year, Malaysian cinema was also celebrated with the nearby Odeon Cinema showcasing seven of Malaysia's favourite films, including Cinta, Bilut and Cicak Man, so you can expect plenty more Malaysian culture for 2008.
A taste of Malaysia
Food enthusiasts can indulge in authentic Malaysian cuisine in Potters Fields, where a variety of stalls will be serving up a range of traditional dishes. Top London restaurant, Awana has set up its own stall which is proving incredibly popular and it's certainly worth queuing for five star cuisine in a handy takeaway box. Satay House are also serving up some of their very own cuisine for you to try, and fresh fruit will also be flown in from Malaysian for Malaysia Week in London, guaranteeing a mouthwatering addition to events.
Be inspired during Malaysia Week London
Tourism Malaysia will operate a travel fair during Malaysia Week, giving visitors the chance to make on the spot holiday bookings to Malaysia. You can also head to Satay House, one of London's oldest Malaysian restaurants for more delicious cuisine as they continue the celebrations in store.
This year, the Malaysia Week London events will fill the whole of Potters Fields Park, Tooley Street and run from Wednesday 30th July to Sunday 3rd August 2008. The event opens daily at 10am and runs until 6pm. Malaysia Week London events are free to attend.
Interview Holly Grabarek On Becoming MTV Asias newest VJ
The name Holly Grabarek may not ring a bell, but chances are it won't be long until you see this 19-year-old Psychology major on TV screens. Born and raised in Singapore, Holly was among the 20 young individuals who were chosen and challenged by MTV Asia to show if they've got what it takes to be a VJ. Earning a spot in the final five, Holly's flexed her natural talent and flair to survive impromptu challenges at the MTV Asia VJ Hunt 2010 BOOTCAMP - a quality that obviously didn't go unnoticed for online voters and a panel of judges. Fresh from winning a one-year contract with MTV Asia
How does it feel to become the new face of MTV Asia?
A part of me has gone "Wow, I've won!" but there's the other part that's still trying to sink in the news slowly.
What was going through your head just before they announced the winner at MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia 2010?
I was just telling myself "Okay, everything I've done so far has been really good and I've come this far, so either way it's a win-win thing." But I really wanted to win! [Laughs] So when they announced my name, I was beyond excited.

What made you try out for the MTV VJ Hunt?
When I got the email, I thought, "Hmm... this sounds exciting! I've never done anything like this before - I should try." Plus, I've been watching MTV all my entire life, so it fits perfectly.

Did you have a game play for the MTV VJ Hunt challenges or was it a matter of just facing whatever came your way?
I winged it but the thing is, we had no idea what was going to come, so we didn't really have like, an idea of what to practice or what think about. The challenges just came and we just had to react.
What did you think of MTV World Stage and how did it feel to be on stage in front of everybody who was there?
I thought it was amazing! The crowd was really, really energetic. The thing is, four or five months ago, when I stood up in front of my class to give my presentation, I used to be shaking and very, very nervous but when I was up there, none of that happened. I actually felt pretty confident about myself.
